"Don't Laugh"

As a parent, there are times when your children make you very angry. And then there are times when you have to do everything in your power not to laugh- at least in front of them because that just encourages the bad behavior.

I would say it is safe to say that I am at the beginning stages of all of this...so it is more practice then anything else.

So, let me get to the story.
I was cleaning up the kitchen and Drew was hanging out playing. Next thing I know, he is quiet.
No sound is usually a bad sign.
I look over and see him sitting on the floor with his back to the wall and one hand playing with the dog's water. He is having a good time.
BUT he knows he is not allowed to play with the dog bowl of water or food.

I tell him NO Drew, you know you can't play with that water. So come here.

He looks at me.

I say come here please or I am going to get you.

He gets up enough to crawl to me, he is past the point of crawling now so I know he is just doing it to be silly, and starts saying babababa and making motor sounds with his mouth.

He looks at me. I stand firm and don't laugh.

But I wanted to. He is cute and funny and I thought, Geez, it really isn't a big deal if you play with a bowl of water! I remind myself it is the principle.

  1. Kyle is always trying to play in the dog dishes and he knows he is not allowed. He will even say "no" while he is doing it. :)

  2. What's the principle exactly?

  3. I love it! Reminds me of something that Cooper would do. Just the other day Cooper was doing something he should not have done and we told him no. In protest, he raises his arms and grunts real loud. It was all I could do to hold back the laughter!
